Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) is one of toughest female characters on television, with the body count and nickname (“the Cavalry”) to prove it. But in Season 3, we may be seeing more—or, sadly, less—of the Cavalry.

According to TV Guide, Melinda may be leaving the team we know and love.

We learned in the fabulous episode “Melinda” about the toll her work has taken on her marriage and her emotional state. When last we saw her, May was working on repairing her relationship with ex-husband Andrew Garner. This becomes the starting-off point for  May’s emotional journey in Season 3.

TV Guide writes,

This season will find May struggling over whether S.H.I.E.L.D. still deserves her focus or if she should instead rebuild her personal life. “In any situation when someone is so devoted to their work as May was, but then realizing over the last two years that S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t really what she dedicated her life to,” Wen tells “That there was definitely a lot of corruption to S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as uncertainty now with the Inhumans being brought in by Coulson. It’s going to be figuring out her final decision in Season 3 and I think Andrew will probably play a part in it.”

It would be a shame to lose May. She doesn’t just provide the muscle. She also acts a surrogate mother to Skye/Daisy—perhaps more so now, since Daisy’s birth mother Jiaying is now deceased. And evil.

Will she stay or will she go? Only the writers know for certain. And as we know from Wade's betrayal and Jiaying's manipulation of Cal, they’re sadistic bastids.

How would you like to see May’s story arc play out? Let us know in the comments.
