After our heroes on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had their minds messed with in the Framework back in Season 4, it would be great to see them back on solid ground in Season 5. But as the first trailer for next season reveals, “solid ground” doesn’t feature in their next adventures.

Our favorite covert ops team is heading to space. And as we see, the S.H.I.E.L.D. crew encounters something that should be very familiar to Marvel film fans.

The trailer gives us a person dressed a bit like Starlord, aka Peter Quill from Guardians of the Galaxy, and he even wears the familiar headgear. Then our heroes are attacked by Kree, the alien race found in both Guardians and S.H.I.E.L.D. They're the ones who created the Inhumans and whose blood runs through Agent Coulson's and Daisy Johnson's veins.

At first glance, we assume these people might be from Yondu's homeworld of Centauri IV. However, we've been anticipating the arrival of the Kree since October. In addition, in Season 1's "Yes-Men," Lady Sif mentioned more than one race of blue-skinned creatures.

But Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t just getting Guardians’ look. It’s also seems to be getting the hit film’s lightheartedness. Check out Mack’s reaction to Coulson saying, “We should split up.”

It’s a great twist, to bring the fun of Guardians of the Galaxy to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., particularly after Season 4 did its damnedest to break our hearts by tormenting our favorite couple, Fitz and Simmons. It's also a nice shift from the more mystical first half of Season 4, which introduced a new Ghost Rider. We’re looking forward to some S.H.I.E.L.D.-based laughs.
