Last night's episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended the LMD storyline with a bang (or, should I say, multiple bangs) and introduced the next chapter in the whole Darkhold saga that was kicked off with the excellent Ghost Rider arc.

Warning: Spoilers Galore Below!

S.H.I.E.L.D. began its new weeks-long hiatus with Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) entering Radcliffe's (John Hannah) Framework to rescue their friends, stepping into an alternate Matrix-style world where — surprise, surprise! — Hydra is in charge of a new world order, Simmons is seemingly dead (NO!) and, love it or hate it, Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) is back as (amongst other things) Daisy's boyfriend!

Good twist, show, because we all thought that was Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) lying nekkid in that bed until the camera panned to a photograph of Daisy and Ward together, looking super happy and in love. Here's what showrunner Jed Whedon told Entertainment Weekly about Ward's return to the Marvel ABC series:

"We figured when you get dropped into an alternate reality, what better way to show that it might not be everything you imagined than the return of one of our most loved and most hated characters. Also, we wanted to have Brett back. We missed him."

As to Daisy's feelings about Ward's return, it's clear she won't be happy about this surprising development. "We could look back at their history and see if that tracks with what's happened in the past, but that sounds about right," said Whedon.

As for what's happening with Anton (Zach McGowan), whose severed head is now in a glass case thingie (freaky!) with his mind in control of a LMD version of himself, has he become *gasp* ... Modok? "Well, no, we can't really say what he is. He's definitely his own creature, but we can't comment really as to if he's based on a Marvel character or not," Whedon added.

Dig into the two videos below and let us know if you're excited about the upcoming story arc. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Hydra returns on April 4.
