It's not all that uncommon for superheroes to get an origin story. It's a staple of the genre, and when it comes to a few heroes, we've gotten multiple versions. Seriously, how many times do we need to see Uncle Ben die? Or the Waynes?
But what about those characters who always seem to be just to the left-of-center, never fully in view but always a constant for our intrepid caped crusaders? Don't they deserve origin stories of their own?
That's exactly what a new trailer from Funny or Die asks us to consider as they explore the potential backstory for the eternally faithful butler of one Bruce Wayne. Alfred: Before Batman allows us the opportunity to imagine what it would be like if Alfred Pennyworth was given his very own solo movie.
The trailer splices together footage from 2005's Oliver Twist movie with Michael Caine's turn as the character in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, and it's a surprisingly good mash-up of scenes. Check out the video below to watch the trailer in full. What do you think, does the world need a prestige pic about Alfred's early days?
