This week, one of the most highly anticipated sci-fi events in recent memory arrives: Blade Runner 2049, director Denis Villeneuve's (Arrival) long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott's original classic. The film's been getting rave reviews from critics, and it's likely to get even more in the days ahead. On Monday, we'll all be talking about it. Now the final trailer has landed to build anticipation even more.
We still don't know all that much about the film's plot, but this trailer does make one thing abundantly clear: Blade runner K (Ryan Gosling) is seeking out former blade runner Deckard (Harrison Ford) with the very future of humanity at stake. Opposing him is Niander Wallace (Jared Leto), an eccentric replicant manufacturer who believes his "disposable workforce" is the key to the future. At the heart of all of this is a secret that K uncovers that sends him in search of Deckard. We still don't know what that secret is, but this trailer definitely makes its importance clear.
For a film this secretive, it's hard to gauge the spoiler-y level of this trailer, but it shows us more in terms of actual plot discussion than anything we've seen before. I don't think it ruins the movie by any means, but if you're worried about knowing too much or dedicated to going in blind, you might want to skip it. Everyone else, check it out. It, like all of the other trailers, makes the film look absolutely stunning.
Blade Runner 2049 is in theaters Friday.
