All the genre TV and movies coming to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime in July 2019

By Trent Moore
Stranger Things 3

From A-list sci-fi shows to deep cuts you should definitely find, there's plenty of good streaming stuff to keep you in the air conditioning as things heat up outside for July 2019.

The biggest story this month is easily the debut of the third season of Netflix's Stranger Things, which hits just in time for Independence Day and finds the kids growing up but facing even bigger monsters in the process. The streaming service also has new episodes of Guillermo del Toro's animated 3Below, along with the third season of SYFY's cult hit Wynonna Earp. Looking a bit deeper, Netflix is also adding The Book of Eli, Mary Poppins Returns, and Cloverfield.

Amazon also has a major series premiere in the comic-based The Boys, an R-rated bloodbath about a team tasked with keeping superheroes in check. Movie-wise, Amazon also has 12 Monkeys hitting this month. As for Hulu, Disney's other streaming service is debuting the buzzy indie horror flick I Trapped the Devil, plus the eagerly anticipated fourth season revival of Veronica Mars. It also has a new episode of the horror anthology Into the Dark.

Check out our full rundown below and let us know what you'll be watching.

NETFLIX

HIGHLIGHTS

Stranger Things 3: It's finally here. Fans have waited a long time to see what's next for Hawkins, Indiana — and the next chapter arrives with a bigger threat and a shiny summer setting. Netflix has kept most of the details for this one under wraps, but we can go ahead and assume Eleven eats so Eggo waffles. Just a hunch.

3Below: Tales of Arcadia: Part 2: This animated series, which is a spinoff of the excellent Trollhunters, is one of the best animated shows on the airwaves (internet-waves?). It's clever, fun, funny, and loaded with family-friendly action and scares. Don't sleep on the latest season, and if you're new to the world, binge it and catch up.

Wynonna Earp Season 3: While production on a fourth season is stalled due to funding issues with IDW Entertainment, the third season of the fan-fave supernatural drama is here for your bingeing pleasure. There's love, there's blood, there's jokes. Oh, and lots of demon slaying, of course.

HULU

I Trapped the Devil: Critics really dug this methodical horror thriller, and now we can all check it out. The story follows a family holding a man in their basement they believe to be the devil. It only gets weirder, and scarier, from there.

Veronica Mars Season 4: You can't keep a good detective down. Years after UPN/The CW pulled the plug, Veronica Mars is back with a brand-new season of cases on Hulu. Yes, star Kristen Bell is back to star, along with most of the core cast.

AMAZON PRIME

HIGHLIGHTS

The Boys: This one is based on Garth Ennis' comic and could be the coolest new show of the summer. It's definitely for adults, and follows a group of vigilantes who try to keep the worlds of self-involved superheroes in check. Early buzz has been great, and the comic is a romp. Even better? It stars genre fan favorite Karl Urban.

Twelve Monkeys: The modern classic comes to Amazon, so if you need a good mind bending, this should do the trick. If you dig that, maybe also check out the SYFY original based loosely on the film, streaming over at Hulu.

Star Trek flicks: If you're looking to fill the void while we wait for that Picard series, you're in luck. Amazon is adding five Trek films, from The Voyage Home to Nemesis. First Contact is also in there, and it's a goodie.
