Altered Carbon is back and its robotic, cyberpunk, body-swapping take on the future of personhood is more complicated than ever. The Netflix sci-fi show just dropped its first trailer for the second season and, though star Joel Kinnaman won't be returning (with character Takeshi Kovacs inhabiting Anthony Mackie this time around), there's already a lot to love.
Mackie, who fans will know as The Falcon from the MCU (who is now picking up a lot of slack left by Captain America in his upcoming Disney+ series with the Winter Soldier), is serving fans with some hardcore Matrix vibes in this first look.
Check it out:
"This is a ghost story," the opening voiceover explains of a season that takes place three decades after the first. Mackie's new take on the character will be one having to contend with a lot more hardship — basically, a lot can happen in thirty years. But he's still after his lost love, Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry), and things are looking up. As he starts solving a series of murders, his pursuit of love and justice overlap — these might be the same search.
The Richard K. Morgan adaptation has added Will Yun Lee, Simone Missick, Dina Shihabi, Torben Liebrecht, and James Saito to the cast while Renée Elise Goldsberry and Chris Conner return as Quellcrist Falconer and Poe. With faces new and familiar looking to lose their sleeves in this twisty crime story, Altered Carbon won't be slowing its Blade Runner-y story down anytime soon.
The show returns to Netflix on Feb. 27.
