AMC teases The Walking Dead crossover announcement

TV crossovers are the spice of life. Who could forget Mork visiting the Fonz on Happy Days or Bart Simpson causing mayhem with Stewie Griffin on Family Guy? On Sunday, another crossover will rock the post-apocalyptic world for either The Walking Dead or its spinoff Fear the Walking Dead. The crossover will revolve around one character who will pop up in one of the two shows over the next year. Ever since the announcement at New York Comic Con, fans have speculated about how it might happen and who it might be.

AMC will put a stop to the rumor mill on Sunday, November 26, when the character will be revealed on Talking Dead, a talk show centered on both series hosted by Chris Hardwick, who often has cast members and other celebrities for post-episode discussions. The announcement came via Twitter today, telling fans to tune in at 10/9 Central for the divulged information. This was after the official Walking Dead account retweeted its own crossover tease from October 7.

Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman said at NYCC that the crossover would take place over the next year, meaning it wouldn't occur until Season 9 of TWD or Season 4 of FTWD. Since the latter is a prequel to the show that inspired it, we may see a younger version of a character from The Walking Dead crop up in a time before all of society collapsed. But who really knows? Maybe that's just what they want us to think.

Episode 6 of TWD's Season 8, "The King, the Widow, and Rick," airs at 9 p.m. on Sunday, with Talking Dead following right after. Still, it seems a bit strange to reveal the crossover character so early on in the game instead of letting fans discover the mystery for themselves in 2018. Perhaps it will be such a small cameo that we may not even notice it without hearing from Hardwick, or is this crossover not meant to be a spoiler, but a hyped-up event for the new year? Hey, when dead people get up and start walking, anything is possible.
