Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen has added another actress: Sasha Lane. Lane will play Alice Monaghan, who, in the comics, was kidnapped by fairies as an infant and rescued by Hellboy. Despite being in her fifties, Alice remains incredibly youthful due to her time with the fairies. No word on whether that will be her fate in the upcoming film.
Lane joins previously announced cast members David Harbour as Hellboy, Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen, and Ian McShane as Professor Bruttenholm. The reboot of Hellboy will focus on a medieval sorceress (Jovovich) hellbent on destroying human kind. Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones, Westworld) is attached to direct.
Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen comes after a long attempt by Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman to launch a third film in the Hellboy series they created (del Toro as writer/director; Perlman as Hellboy). The pair's first Hellboy film launched in 2004, with a sequel, Hellboy: The Golden Army coming in 2008. Hellboy comic creator Mike Mignola will serve as a co-executive producer and promises this time around, Hellboy will be a bloodier, R-rated affair.
Sasha Lane is a relative newcomer to Hollywood, best known for starring in 2016's critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama, American Honey. She currently has a number of other indie projects lined up, including the sci-fi flick Hunting Lila, about a girl on the run who has "dangerous mind power." Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen will be Lane's first studio film.
