American Horror Story loves to taunt its audience. From keeping the plot top secret to divulging the subtitle in a splashy reveal, to releasing scores of cryptic teasers, AHS keeps us guessing, and this season is no different.
Today, FX released a new teaser for American Horror Story: Apocalypse called "Radio Active Mist." It may sound like a funky shade of nail polish, but in this teaser, a woman sits to read, undisturbed, while a humanoid shape is thrown against a window behind her.
This goes well with two previous teasers: "Fig," in which a monstrous hand cuts open a fig, releasing scorpions...
...and "Hand Out," in which the monstrous hand seems to be shaking hands with a baby.
These join "Hourglass," the first teaser released.
Five video clips have also been released on Instagram. These are scratchy, staticy teasers, that show images from classic doomsday scenarios: gas mask, Geiger counter, hazmat suits, candles. More interesting is that there are words -- or portions of words -- buried in almost all of these videos. "The," "Begin," "Ning," and "Is" can be found in four of the videos. The fifth one appears to be without a word.
"The beginning is...." The beginning is what? The end? Coming again?
American Horror Story: Apocalypse will star Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Adina Porter, Leslie Grossman, Kathy Bates, and Evan Peters, and will feature the return of Jessica Lange. The season premieres September 12 at 10pm on FX.
