Paramount Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for director Denis Villeneuve’s (Prisoners, Sicario) new alien-arrival movie (ahem) Arrival

The movie based on Ted Chiang’s 1998 novella Story of Your Life stars DC/Marvel rivals Amy Adams (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Jeremy Renner (Captain America: Civil War), as well as Forest Whitaker (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Michael Stuhlbarg (Men in Black 3). The script was penned by Eric Heisserer, who wrote the 2011 semi-reboot/prequel of John Carpenter’s horror classic The Thing.

Adams said of the movie’s grounded approach: “This isn’t a graphic-novel universe or creating a new universe. This happens in our world today, as it exists. Not having to transport myself to a universe where superheroes exist, which is also fun, really helped me ground the character and the experience.”

Here’s the official synopsis for the movie:

When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team - lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) - is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

Arrival will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 2, but the rest of us mere mortals will have to wait two months to see Villeneuve’s next opus when the movie finally opens on Nov. 11.
