Ana Marie Cox is now bringing her incisive political and cultural insights to the SYFY Fangrrls vertical.

Cox will be joining the Fangrrls team as its newest columnist. Her series, called Space the Nation, will be a weekly guide for viewing the current political climate through the lens of genre fiction, video games and superhero movies.

"Nothing begs for the rational exploration of dystopian possibilities like the Trump Era," Cox said. "People make a lot of jokes about the wildness of the current timeline; I’m hoping Space the Nation will help folks realize that this timeline isn’t bringing us very much that science fiction authors haven’t thought about before."

Cox has had a long career in politics and culture criticism. She was the founding editor for the political blog Wonkette in 2004 until her retirement from the site in 2006. She has also been a Senior Political Correspondent for MTV News, a regular correspondent for The Daily Beast since 2009, and a host of the Talk section interviews for The New York Times Magazine since October 2015, as well as an editor for Mother Jones and a writer for Time, GQ, Air America, and The Guardian.

In February 2017, Cox launched the With Friends Like These podcast for the Crooked Media network, where she discusses issues with guests on all sides of the political spectrum.

Space the Nation will debut as part of the SYFY Fangrrls vertical in December 2017.
