According to a Tweet from Production Weekly, Paul W.S. Anderson will be returning to direct the fourth installment of the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Afterlife. This will be his first time directing a Resident Evil film since the first film in the series, released in 2002.

The movie, based on the popular Resident Evil video game series, is to start an 8-week shoot at Toronto's Cinespace Film Studios in late September, and will star Milla Jovovich as the series' stalwart heroine Alice.

No confirmed word yet on the plot of the sequel, but as is the case with the other films in the series, Anderson has written the screenplay.

Anderson's most recent film was the remake of Death Race. He is also reportedly writing and directing a proposed remake of the gangster film The Long Good Friday.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is scheduled for a September of 2010 release.
