Helloooooo nurse! There is great news in the world of animation today, as the classic series Animaniacs is officially returning. The revival will take place on Hulu, where it's received a two-season, straight-to-series order. The whole gang will be back, presumably with baloney in their slacks.
Hulu announced today that they'll partner with Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Animation to revive the Peabody Award- and daytime Emmy Award-winning series, which was originally shown on the dubba-dubba-WB network 20 years ago. Steven Spielberg will return to executive-produce.
In addition to Animaniacs, Hulu has also landed the rights to Pinky and the Brain, Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain, and the entirety of Tiny Toon Adventures. All of these shows can be streamed right now, and the revival will join them in 2020 -- with Hulu calling it "its first original series made specifically for families."
Craig Erwich, senior VP of content at Hulu, said, "We cannot wait to work with Steven Spielberg and the entire Amblin and Warner Bros. teams to bring more sketches, catchphrases, songs and laughs from the Animaniacs to kids and adults everywhere.” He goes on to say that with the beloved show joining their ranks, they can continue their efforts "to be the No. 1 streaming destination for premium animated content."
Spielberg is quoted as saying, "I am so pleased and proud that Animaniacs will have a home at Hulu. Together with Warner Bros., we look to bring new audiences and longtime fans into this wild world of Yakko, Wakko and Dot. I am also excited that the full library of Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures episodes are included in the deal.”
There is no word yet on whether original voice actors Rob Paulsen (Yakko, Pinky), Tress MacNeille (Dot), Jess Harnell (Wakko), and Maurice LaMarche (Brain) will be returning. But since those actors were so pivotal to making the original show what it was, it would be borderline madness (of the non-hilarious fashion) to bring it back without them.
When 2020 comes around, be on the lookout for the entire gang of Yakko, Wakko, Dot, Slappy, Buttons, Mindy, the Goodfeathers, and the rest of the crew to return, as well as (of course) Pinky and the Brain. Those two will likely still be doing the same thing they do every night -- trying to take over the world, as well as take over streaming television.
Are you excited for this latest entry in the non-stop revival machine? Are you looking forward to experiencing the insanity for the first time? Let us know in the comments!
