It looks like Speed Racer and the Mach 5 have a new rival in the Millennium Falcon.
The Star Wars universe is always sparking creativity. From novels to video games to fan films, a Galaxy Far, Far Away has influenced so many people. Anime has now added itself to that list of genres. We know that anime heavily inspired the upcoming Disney cartoon Star Wars: Resistance. However, YouTube user Dmitry Grozov has taken it one step further, creating a trailer for A New Hope that looks like it could be edited into Akira perfectly.
“What’s old is new again” is the best way to describe this trailer. Dmitry doesn’t take away any of the heart from the original film, creating an interpretation, rather than an adaptation. That doesn’t mean he didn’t add his touches. The battle between Vader and Obi-Wan looks to be more intense. While the live-action fight was epic, this seems to give us a little more of the Jedi we saw in Revenge of the Sith. However, what makes this trailer stand out are the little touches.
The Jawa’s eyes. A little spark of emotion. He wasn’t the creature we all thought was cute when they abducted R2. He was a desert scavenger who saw nothing but dollar signs when discovering a working astromech wandering through the desert.
With Disney reportedly slowing down on its Star Wars output over the next few years, it’s up to the most creative of fans, like Dmitry, to fill in the gap.
