Peaky Blinders and Annabelle star Annabelle Wallis has been tapped to star alongside Tom Cruise in Universal’s The Mummy.

Oh, and we also have a few intriguing tidbits about their respective characters to share!

The upcoming Mummy reboot — which sees Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) as the title character — is set to be the first in a series of interconnected feature films featuring characters plucked from Universal’s vault of classic monsters; including the Invisible Man (Johnny Depp), the Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein's monster and the Creature From the Black Lagoon.

Universal's goal is to weave a grand cinematic universe around them that will lead to a massive crossover movie event similar to Marvel's The Avengers

The upcoming monster movie will take place in the present day (as opposed to the Stephen Sommers 1999 film, which took place in 1925) and sources over at The Hollywood Reporter say Tom Cruise will be playing a special forces soldier (or at least a former soldier), while Annabelle Wallis will play a scientist.

Directed and produced by Alex Kurtzman with a script by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, Doctor Strange), The Mummy is set to open in theaters on June 9, 2017.
