Though it hasn’t gotten much love the past few years, Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles is still one of the biggest fang-related franchises on the market. Now, she wants to bring it to the small screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rice has finally regained the film and television rights to the franchise, and she is putting all her power into getting a television series made. Rice said she imagines the series as a Game of Thrones-caliber television series, just with less White Walkers are more vampires. Probably about the same amount of sexiness, though. Rice posted a statement about the project on Facebook.
Here’s an excerpt from Rice’s comments:
“It is, more than ever, abundantly clear that television is where the vampires belong … Over the years you all have told me how much you want to see a ‘Game of Thrones’ style faithful rendering of this material, and how much you want for the series to remain in my control. Well, I have heard you. I have always heard you. What you want is what I want.”
There’s no doubt the Vampire Chronicles series is a perfect fit for a television adaptation, and if they can pull it off at the same production level as Game of Thrones, it could be huge. This brand has a lot of built-in recognition, and Rice’s saga is ripe for exploration on the type of palate television could provide.
What do you think? Would you tune in for Vampire Chronicles?
