Another MAJOR piece of DC's Batman lore could be coming to Fox's Gotham

With future baddies like The Riddler, The Penguin and Catwoman already playing critical roles on the cast, Fox’s Gotham series might be bringing in another major component of the Batman lore.

The Daily Beast had an extensive chat with star Ben McKenzie (Det. Jim Gordon), and along with touching on all the expected stuff about bringing such an iconic universe to life, he also dropped a bombshell. According to McKenzie, the writers are considering bringing on The Graysons, aka the parents of Batman’s future sidekick Dick Grayson/Robin.

Here’s the choice quote:

“The Grayson’s may appear this season. I’m not 100 percent sure yet, but I think so.”

Considering the series has been one of the few bright spots on Fox’s freshman schedule this season, the network has already picked up the series for a full 22 episode order this season — despite the fact that it was conceived as a 16-episode limited season from the start. With all those extra hours to fill, it seems they might keep mining deeper and deeper for characters and stories.

So, is this a good move? We’re obviously psyched to hear we might get to meet the young Graysons in a future episode, and it’d be easy enough to introduce them — just have the circus come to town. But should they be going this far into the Batman canon so soon? By the end of season one, Gordon will have already met and interacted heavily with a big ol’ chunk of the major, future Bat-characters.

At some point, this starts to get a little far-fetched, considering we’re still at least a decade away from Batman showing up in town to prowl the nights and actually face these villains. But hey, the show is having a blast with it’s semi-campy, Burton-esque tone, so further down the rabbit hole we go.

What do you think? Should they introduce the Graysons?
