Just in case you didn't know that Ant-Man is connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a new TV spot and some posters are here to help.
Outside of diehard Marvel fans, the rest of the mainstream public might not know who Ant-Man is, or anything about his long history within the Marvel Universe as a founding member of the Avengers. While that history has been altered at least to some degree for the Ant-Man movie, Marvel Studios apparently wants to make sure that you know Earth's Mightiest Heroes are not that far away.
First, there is this new TV spot, in which Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), the thief recruited by Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to become the new Ant-Man, suggests that a call to the Avengers might be a good idea:
And then there are the posters below, which couldn't be more explicit in reminding you that Earth's Tiniest Hero exists in the same universe as Marvel's A-listers. It's not as if Iron Man, Cap or Thor appears in Ant-Man (as far as we know, anyway), but Marvel wants to make sure that moviegoers know they're all from the same stable of superheroes (which will become even clearer when Lang shows up in Captain America: Civil War).
Is Marvel worried about the box-office response for Ant-Man? A six-minute preview is rolling out this weekend in front of Jurassic World, and now this spot and these posters are being deployed as well for what was supposed to be more of a standalone movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We'll see how it all pays off when Ant-Man opens on July 17.
