Cameras have started to roll on the first live-action movie starring the ruler of Atlantis.
While The Flash still doesn't have a director, The Batman has been through director drama of its own, Justice League 2 doesn't have a release date and both Green Lantern Corps and Shazam are currently in a state of flux, Aquaman has quietly and improbably sailed relatively smoothly into production.
Director James Wan called "Action!" this week down in Australia as principal photography commenced on Aquaman's first standalone feature film. In addition to shooting around the Queensland region of Australia and on all nine soundstages at that country's massive Village Roadshow Studios, the movie will also travel to Newfoundland, Tunisia and Sicily.
The film stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and the rest of the cast has now been officially confirmed: Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna.
A new title logo has been revealed for the film (see below), while Wan also tweeted an image from the first day of shooting:
We saw Momoa as Aquaman very briefly in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and he will have a substantially larger presence in this fall's Justice League before Aquaman (the movie) opens on December 21, 2018.
