Denis Villeneuve's Arrival was one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2016, and esteemed voters bestowed eight Academy Award nominations on the eerie sci-fi flick, for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Production Design.

The atmospheric thriller featured a fleet of smooth spaceships known as "shells," which were positioned strategically around the globe during the passive invasion. Audiences had a limited view of the curvy alien craft piloted by the lumbering elephantine Heptapods, and now some concept art provides an interesting opportunity to further explore their design.

Have a look at the illustrations unveiling the mysterious Jelly Belly-shaped ships in the gallery below and tell us if this sci-fi gem was one of your recent favorites.
