Though some leaked set pics let the big reveal out of the bag a few weeks ago, we still got some pretty shocking twists involving Summer Glau’s Isabel Rochev on last night’s Arrow. So, what’s up — and what could’ve been?

Spoilers ahead for last night’s Arrow!

Moments after we got the big reveal that Isabel would be coming back to life, despite a few bullets to the chest thanks to Diggle, it pretty much confirmed reports she’ll be playing a Mirakuru-powered version of DC baddie Ravager.

Producer Andrew Kreisberg admits they stole and borrowed from DC lore to put their own take on the character, who is actually Slade’s brainwashed daughter Rose Wilson in the comics, and also explained how their version of Ravager evolved:

“Part of the reason Isabel disappeared for a while is because we still weren't quite sure which way to go, whether she should be an ally or a villain. We had written it so that it could turn out either way. The scene that I was picturing was Isabel, Slade and Sebastian [Kevin Alejandro] in Oliver's office, the triumvirate of evil. Once that happened, there was no way she was not going to be Ravager.”

Another wild tidbit? Early on, the writer’s room was eyeing an arc that would’ve had Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) play Ravager, until they decided to go with the current Black Canary story and team her up with Oliver and his team:

“Isabel was the one thing we weren't entirely sure about as we were developing the season. Truthfully, there was a very early iteration of the series where Sara [Caity Lotz] started the season as Ravager, and then we switched over.”

Though some fans have been mixed on Sara’s addition, we think the twist to let Glau play a deliciously evil baddie has been an extremely fun arc. We can’t wait to see her decked out as Ravager going toe to toe with the Arrow.

What do you think? Were you shocked to see Isabel with the evil, blood eyes?
