The producer of Arrow promises we’ll be getting a whole lot of new DC awesomeness this season. No wonder they bumped The Flash off to his own pilot — Arrow is going to be very, very busy the next few months.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Arrow producer Greg Berlanti revealed that some of the big seeds that have been planted in recent weeks are going to pay off in a very big way later this season with some “adrenaline-fueled storytelling” in the back half of season two.
The biggest components, and the reason Team Arrow will be too busy to hang out with the Flash much this season? They’ll be introducing the Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey. Plus, the history between Slade (Manu Bennett) and Arrow (Stephen Amell) is definitely going to be explored:
"Those are all things that are coming up - our own versions of those things. It’s now been revealed that Slade is in cahoots with Brother Blood (Kevin Alejandro) and so we have a two-pronged approach to the big bad of the year which has been fun and different. That'll really heat up.
Every year we do one episode that's more primarily an all-island episode and the wraparounds for that - the story that's happening in the present - is a direct confrontation between Oliver and Slade. You’re seeing where they went south - what truly happened with them in the past. And if we do it right, that's going to be really terrific.”
The first season and a half of Arrow wrote the playbook on how to simultaneously lay groundwork and keep us wildly entertained, and we can’t wait to see how the Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey enrich the Arrow-verse. With Flash already in the offing, it looks like Berlanti and company plan on building a full-fledged small-screen DC universe at The CW — and we are so okay with that.
What are you looking forward to the most this season?
