The CW’s Arrow has grown into one of the network’s biggest hits, and its already preparing to launch one spinoff series when The Flash debuts this fall. But that doesn’t mean producer Marc Guggenheim is running out of ideas.
In a wide-ranging chat with TV Line to promote tonight’s “Birds of Prey” episode, the executive producer revealed that he would actually like to use the returning character of The Huntress (Jessica De Gouw) to anchor her own ass-kicking spinoff series about the past year she spent on the run.
Here’s how he explained the concept:
“She’s, literally, been off the show for a year. What’s Helena been doing during that time? What mental state is she in? What emotional state is she in? We definitely went into this with [the idea], ‘We’ve got to wrap up the whole Helena and her father storyline’…
As far as what becomes a series, what doesn’t become a series, one thing I’ve talked to D.C. Comics about is, I’d love to do a Huntress series – I mentioned this to Jessica – where we cover the year that she spent between Episodes 117 and 217, from her perspective, traveling the world and hunting for her father. You never know, all things are possible, as long as we’ve got Jessica’s willing participation.”
Guggenheim also agreed with fans everywhere when he admitted they are looking for a way to team up Black Canary, the Huntress and Felicity for a straight-up “Birds of Prey” sequel episode, noting, “that’s on our show bucket list.” It’s on ours, too, Marc. Make it so.
The idea of a limited series Huntress spinoff is an intriguing idea, and could even be a good off-season option as a summer series to keep the Arrow buzz alive when the main series is on hiatus. What do you think? Would you watch the leather-clad adventures of Jessica De Gouw?
