Elseworlds is in full swing, and the Arrowverse crossover event is already making fans of The CW shows theorize over deep-cut references. Perhaps the biggest from the Arrow episode of the event, during which Earth 90’s old Man Barry Allen Flash turned up to warn the gang — and recognized John Diggle, aka Spartan.
That’s odd, even in the midst of a Monitor-driven reality-warping that’s causing three episodes' worth of turmoil this year. Odder still was when Flash greeted "John" and commented on his lack of ring.
Take a look:
John’s ring? A superpowered ring, most likely, as ‘90s Flash was part of the Justice League. Do you see where we’re going with this? Yes, fan theorists rejoice, because Arrow just tipped its cowl to the idea that Earth 90’s version of John Diggle is none other than John Stewart, the Green Lantern.
The Green Lantern hasn’t gotten any play at all within the Arrowverse, aside from some easter egg-y references to Ferris Air a few years back. But fans have been champing at the bit for Diggle to fill the John Stewart role for years.
According to TV Guide, it’s not a “no” from the higher-ups. Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz spoke after a press screening about the throwaway comment and whether it had any bearing on this particular dimension. "To be continued,” Schwartz said, “We were all really excited about that fun nod, but I'm not sure what's to come of that, really." So, nothing definite, but that’s more than enough hope for some fans.

Arrowverse fans know that crazy crossovers and ridiculous events are par for the course on the shows, so the possibility of Green Lantern and his ring showing up for just a little bit — even in a bit of a gag role — seems far more likely now that ‘90s Flash has dropped this easter egg.
Now what will Supergirl hold as it follows up this twist-filled Arrow offering of the Arrowverse event? We’ll find out soon, as the episode airs Tuesday night.
