Arrow will be losing yet another original team member by the end Season 6, as a series regular is set to depart The CW superhero series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Paul Blackthorne — who plays Detective Quentin Lance on the DC TV series — will not be returning for the show’s seventh season.
Blackthorne has been on board ever since the very first episode of Season 1, and with the actor poised to leave Arrow by the end of the year, this means Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow) and David Ramsey (Diggle/Spartan) will be the only original cast members from the pilot left standing.
Blackthorne is the latest original cast member to leave Star City following Willa Holland’s departure earlier this season. Holland’s Thea Queen, aka Speedy, left back in March with Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) and Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law) on a mission to destroy her father’s three long-lost Lazarus Pits. Blackthorne’s departure will clear out some space for Haynes, who was recently (and surprisingly) confirmed to return as a series regular for Season 7. All by his lonesome.
The former Dresden Files actor's departure is only the latest shakeup on Arrow this season. Recently, co-showrunners Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle stepped down from the Arrowverse series, with Beth Schwartz being tapped to take over as the new showrunner. Although no longer at the helm, Guggenheim will be staying on board in the role of executive consultant on both Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. This follows Andrew Kreisberg’s exit back in November of last year following several allegations of sexual harassment.
Blackthorne’s character has been put through the ringer this season with Earth-2’s Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), aka Black Siren — his dead daughter’s doppelgänger — whom he was trying to rehabilitate. Before the actor leaves, however, Lance’s other daughter, Sara (Caity Lotz), will be making a guest appearance on the Season 6 finale of Arrow airing on May 17.
