Arrow's moving in on Doctor Who's turf. Following John Barrowman, they've cast another star from the iconic series.

British actress Alex Kingston has snagged a recurring role on The CW's Arrow. She recently appeared on Doctor Who as River Song, but is best known for her 12-year stint on ER. For Arrow, Kingston will play Dinah Lance aka Laurel's mother. The maternal figure has been M.I.A. since the beginning of the series, but she's returning to make amends.

Dinah abandoned the family following the tragic death of her daughter Sarah. How will her remaining child and ex-husband Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) receive her? Kingston's slated to appear in several episodes, which means they'll have plenty of time to figure that out.

In the comics, Dinah Lance was the first to carry the Black Canary name. The title was then passed down to her daughter Dinah "Laurel" Lance. Unfortunately, in the world of Arrow, Canary has taken a backseat to the title character. Between one of the ladies, could the crime-fighter rear her head? One can only hope.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

What do you think of Kingston being cast as Mama Lance?
