Next week, Arrow will finally make its series debut. For months, we've been bombarded with promos featuring the hero and his enemies. But what about his allies? Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) shares the screen with Dinah "Laurel" Lance (Katie Cassidy), who traditionally is a crime-fighter in her own right. When is Black Canary going to suit up?
In a recent interview, Cassidy spoke about her kickass alter ego. When she auditioned for the part, she wasn't familiar with Lance's heroic background. "Creating backstory to make this person as authentic as possible, I did a little bit of research, but I also, at that point, didn't consider the Black Canary because I didn't know," she admits.
Now that she's been properly informed, will Black Canary appear anytime soon? Cassidy says, "When—if [she becomes Black Canary] is always still a question. You never know with these writers; they could do anything. I try not to think about that at this point because I think sometimes I can get in my own way if I overthink it. I think as far as the Black Canary goes, it will probably happen very organically. I know that Laurel is very strong, very tough. She comes from a middle-class family; her father's a cop; she knows how to fight. It will be something that happens organically, and it's probably going to be pretty cool."
If she doesn't become the Black Canary we know and love, we still want to see her in action. The idea of Oliver having all the fun seems like such a waste. That character has so much to offer.
Arrow premieres Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
