The Arrowverse will be under the thumb of the all-powerful Monitor during this year’s "Elseworlds" crossover. The multiverse will shudder as everything gets super, super weird. Everyone switches roles, new heroes show up, and the plotline has the inconsequential fun of a “What if?” comic.
All that comes thanks to LaMonica Garrett’s new role as the interstellar and basically-omnipotent Mar-Novu aka The Monitor.
EW debuted The CW’s official first picture of Garrett’s tome-wielding reality-watcher, who’s got more than a little Doctor Strange wrapped up in his costume. And is that a planet exploding behind him? The network has since officially released the pic, and we have it below:
Take a look:
The “extraterrestrial being of infinite power” usually, well, monitors the multiverse and makes sure things are safe from the Anti-Monitor or any other number of evil meddlers. Debuting in Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’s Crisis on Infinite Earths, The Monitor will join Batwoman, Lois Lane, and Nora Fries in their Arrowverse debuts. But The Monitor is on a whole ‘nother level, according to his co-stars.
“LaMonica was ridiculous, like seeing him in his suit, he’s just a monster,” The Flash star Grant Gustin said. “He’s like an absolute unit. He doesn’t have to do a lot with his performance. He’s so intimidating with just these subtleties, so that’s dope.” Sounds like a stoic guardian of time and space to us.
We’ll all see for sure when the "Elseworlds" event starts on Dec. 9, running through The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl until Dec. 11.
