Remember back in the ‘50s when Betty and Veronica spent most of their time pining for the adoration of the very ginger Archie? Well, get with the times, man, because in Betty & Veronica: Vixens, they’re the leaders of Riverdale’s toughest biker gang.
Stemming from writer Jamie L. Rotante and artists Jen Vaughn, Elaina Unger, and Rachel Deering, the Archie Comics series has offered a far different take on the characters, who way back in the day were once officially known as “Archie’s Girls Betty and Veronica.” Heck, five issues in, and the newish series has an even bolder take than their reimagined counterparts on the popular CW show, Riverdale.
Today, we’ve got an exclusive first look at the sixth issue from new interior artist Vaughn, as you can see in the gallery below, along with variant covers from Eva Cabrera and Sanya Anwar. The issue kicks off a new arc called “Hunted," where, according to the synopsis, “The Vixens are being followed by a sinister former foe, but he claims to come in peace — can he be trusted? Meanwhile, a young woman’s mysterious disappearance has the Vixens’ questioning if their actions are having consequences.”
Speaking of Anwar, we’ve also got the exclusive announcement that she’s joining the gang for Betty & Veronica: Vixens #8, which will round out the “Hunted” arc. You can see her cover below, along with a first look at that issue’s variant covers by Veronica Fish and Sandra Lanz in the gallery.
"I was just a kid when I picked up my first comic book and ended up meeting Betty and Veronica for the first time. As an adult, it's incredibly exciting to be a part of the creative team that brings them to life!" Anwar tells SYFY WIRE. "I'm really excited to bring a bit of my aesthetic to story. Betty and Veronica revamped as a take-no-prisoners motorcycle gang? I am all in!"
"I can't wait for everyone to see what's in store for the Vixens. We're making our way through the second arc and the action's only just beginning -- things are about to get crazy from here,” adds Rotante. “I'm grateful to have had Jen Vaughn on board to ring in this new arc and I'm so excited for everyone to see the madness that Sanya Anwar is about to unleash on the world. Grab your helmets; it's gonna be one wild ride!"
Issue #8 will find more women going missing in Riverdale, and the Vixens worrying they’ve been used as pawns in some sort of evil scheme. But they’ll have to figure it out fast, before it’s too late to save the missing women.
Betty & Veronica: Vixens #6 is due out in a few weeks at your local comic shop (you can pre-order now), while issue #8 will drop in July. Check out the previews below, then let us know if you'll be going along for the ride!
