Director Andy Muschietti’s cinematic adaptation of Stephen King’s IT is still crushing the competition at the box office thanks in part to Bill Skarsgard’s terrifying Pennywise the Clown; and to celebrate the movie’s release, artist Michelle Martin has turned a Cabbage Patch Kids doll into one of the master of horror’s most iconic characters.
As you can see from her Instagram page, Martin likes to turn said lovable Cabbage Patch Kids doll into Garbage Pail Kids ones (the Garbage Pail Kids were a series of Topps trading cards meant to parody the highly popular dolls from the 1980s whose own popularity later led to The Garbage Pail Kids Movie in 1987) and she’s now put her talents to work by creating this new Pennywise doll.
However, instead of using the movie’s Pennywise as inspiration, Martin based her latest creation on Tim Curry’s chilling take on the character from the 1990 two-part mini-series starring Richard Thomas, Tim Reid, Annette O’Toole and John Ritter. Martin posted several pics illustrating her progress, accompanied by insights into her painstaking work.
The overall result is pretty great what with the clown outfit, red tuft of hair and a mouth full of razor sharp teeth. If you’re interested, the doll is also available for sale (unless someone’s grabbed it already), so snatch this Pennywise for yourself before he's gone.
