It may seem like an eternity until we blast into the third season of SYFY's The Expanse later this year, but Boom! Studios has an antidote for your protomolecular prognostications surrounding where the valiant crew of the Rocinante is headed after the cataclysmic events of last season.
In an epic alliance with Alcon Entertainment, Boom! is presenting The Expanse Origins, an illuminating new 144-page softcover graphic novel delving into the backstories of some of your favorite characters from the solar system-spinning sci-fi series.
This fresh graphic novel collects the four-issue digital-first series from The Expanse staff writers Hallie Lambert and Georgia Lee, with art by Huang Danlan (Venus). It was originally offered online starting back in February of 2017, and has never appeared in print until now. And to top off this space opera sundae, it also includes an all-new in-canon story by creator James S.A. Corey (Ty Franck and Jim Abraham) focused on the world-weary Detective Miller (played by Thomas Jane).
“We wanted to take a peek at who our beloved crew was before the Rocinante,” added Lee in the original press release. “The show hints that each has painful secrets. Origins gives us clues as to what those might be, and why our heroes ultimately find home in each other.”
“Writing comics exercises different creative muscles than writing for television,” explained Lambert. “I grew up reading and loving comics and graphic novels, but having this opportunity to write them has given me a whole new perspective and appreciation for the art form.”
Settle into this 10-page peek into the untold origins of James Holden (Steven Strait), Naomi Nagata (Dominique Tipper), Alex Kamal (Cas Anvar), and Amos Burton (Wes Chatham), then tell us if you're psyched for the upcoming season of The Expanse when it lands in June.
The Expanse Origins soars into comic shops and online retailers Feb. 7.
