It was on this day in 1986 that the world was introduced to The Fly.

It’s so good, team. It's Jeff Goldblum turning into a fly. Graphically. Directed by David Cronenberg, the movie won an Academy Award for Best Makeup. It got a lot of attention during its release, with Gene Siskel calling it the 10th best film of 1986.

People turning into bug-like creatures because their DNA is crossed? Round two, please! It was on this day in 2009 that District 9 premiered.

Produced by Peter Jackson and Carolynne Cunningham, the movie features an alternate reality in which aliens have found themselves stranded in South Africa. And a scientist turns into one. Directed by Neill Blomkamp, the movie was a commercial and critical success but has yet to see its sequel realized.

Tomorrow: Some serious A-List birthdays.
