She's arguably the best part of The Poseidon Adventure, and today would have been 97. On this day in sci-fi history, Shelley Winters was born.

Fun fact about this movie that's pretty amazing in light of the time: Winters was 52 years old when she made this movie and SHE. DID. HER. OWN. STUNTS! So, next time you're underwater, wish her a happy birthday, won't you?

Today is also the 50th birthday of Brian Michael Bendis.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Bendis was always a huge comic fan and began his career as an illustrator at The Cleveland Plain Dealer before going on to write early works like AKA Goldfish, Jinx, and Sam and Twitch.

In 2000, he was hired by Marvel Comics and worked to reinvent The Avengers. Also, in 2001 he and Michael Gaydos created the character Jessica Jones in Alias. He runs a pretty fun Twitter feed, so wish him a happy birthday here.

Tomorrow: Star Trek Double Whammy.
