It's unsung hero Sunday around here. Because we're celebrating Jonathan Ke Quan's (aka Ke Huy Quan) birthday. Hold onto your potatoes, he turns 46 years old today.
Born in Saigon in 1971, Quan went to Alhambra High School in California and later graduated with a degree in film from USC. Quan was discovered when he accompanied his brother to an open call for Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). Spielberg's people cast him, and then he ended up letting them improv this scene:
From there, he was pretty much the best part of The Goonies (1985) as Richard "Data" Wang:
He was also part of a short-lived Dee Wallace sitcom called Nothing Is Easy:
Since then he's been acting on and off and stunt coordinating.
Today also happens to be the birthday of Andrew Garfield. He was once Spider-Man, team.
Tomorrow: Carrie-Anne Moss and Kim Cattrall.
