On this day in 1968, Fantastic Voyage premiered in theaters. The movie, about a ship that’s able to be miniaturized and injected into the human body to heal people, had just about everything. Including Raquel Welch.

A lot of people think that the movie is based on the Isaac Asimov novel of the same name. Nope; turns out it's the other way around. Asimov wrote the novelization based on the movie, but it was released beforehand. Also, yes of course it inspired Innerspace (1987).

The movie won Academy Awards for Art Direction and Special Effects and it retains a 92 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie was successful enough that it spawned a (surprisingly) great Saturday morning cartoon in 1968. All are worth a rewatch.

Tomorrow: They did the Mash.
