James Cameron’s Avatar sequels just added a Game of Thrones alum to the cast.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Oona Chaplin (who was recently seen alongside Tom Hardy in Taboo) will be heading to Pandora for all four planned Avatar follow-ups as a brand-new character named Varang. Nothing else about Chaplin’s character has been revealed, but the former Thrones actress (she played Talisa Stark) will rub elbows with returning stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver.

During 20th Century Fox’s presentation at CineEurope earlier today (via Deadline), Lightstorm Entertainment’s Jon Landau revealed that filming on the upcoming sequels will officially kick off on Sept. 25 with the mo-cap performances. Talking about the Avatar films, Landau added:

“At the heart of any movie are the characters. One of the strengths of great scripts are always the universal and relatable themes… There’s no more relatable theme than family. At the center of each of our four movies will be the Sully family. Each sequel will play as a stand-alone movie. Each movie’s story will come to its own conclusion… However, when looked at as a whole, the journey across all four movies will create an even larger connected epic saga for audiences around the world.”

The first Avatar sequel will be released in theaters on Dec. 18, 2020, with the other three debuting on Dec. 18, 2020; Dec. 17, 2021; and Dec. 20, 2024. Are you excited about Oona Chaplin joining the cast of Avatar?
