One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most mysterious beings is going to turn up for its ultimate showdown.
Benicio Del Toro, who made his MCU debut in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy (well, technically in the post-credits sequence of 2013's Thor: The Dark World), will once again appear as The Collector in Avengers: Infinity War.
Interestingly, Del Toro's involvement was not revealed by Marvel itself -- which has yet to announce an official cast list for the film -- but by his co-star Josh Brolin, who is playing the movie's big baddie, Thanos. Heroic Hollywood stumbled upon an Instagram live video chat in which Brolin mentioned working with Del Toro as well as two of the Guardians themselves, Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) and Zoe Saldana (Gamora). Del Toro has also apparently been spotted around the Atlanta area where Infinity War began filming two weeks ago.
To be honest, it's not incredibly surprising that Del Toro is back for this film: Since the plot is rumored to focus on Thanos' search for the Infinity Stone, and since one of them, the Reality Stone (aka the Aether) was last seen in the hands of The Collector, it makes sense that The Collector and The Mad Titan will come in contact with each other at some point.
The question is: Who or what is The Collector -- one of the universe's oldest beings -- working for? Is he in cahoots with Thanos or after the Infinity Stones for his own purposes? That is perhaps something that will be revealed in Avengers: Infinity War. Or not. After all, they also have 463 other characters to juggle in the movie.
Avengers: Infinity War, starring everyone you can think of and directed by the Russo Brothers, is set to arrive on May 4, 2018. I'm going down to shoot my cameo next week -- when are you doing yours?
