The team best known for creating the awesome Walking Dead episodic games will be heading to Gotham City next. That’s right — Telltale Games is hard at work on a new Batman game.

Put simply: This is awesome news. Telltale is creating some of the most creative and ambitious games on the market, and seeing what they can do with the Batman universe will be fascinating, especially coming in the wake of the acclaimed Arkham series.

Here’s what Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner had to say about the approach:

"At Telltale, we’ve been honored to bring our unique approach to interactive storytelling to some of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be exploring what it means to be Batman in an all-new series starting next year... This iteration of Batman will give fans a first-hand opportunity to dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity, and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy."

Yeah, that sounds about as ambitious as you’d expect. Along with The Walking Dead, the company has also churned out some excellent titles based on properties such as Game of Thrones and The Wolf Among Us. So there’s a definite track record of quality here.

We’ll be waiting with bated breath to see how this one turns out.

What would you like to see Telltale does with The Dark Knight?
