This awesome CGI action short film is like Ant-Man, just without the man

The first trailer for Ant-Man gave us a fleeting glimpse at how they’ll handle the effects work for when Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang shrinks to microscopic size — but Marvel might want to take a pointer or two from this indie short film about an ant (without a man) just trying to survive in a giant-sized world.

Dubbed formic, the short 3+ minute film aims to chronicle the struggle of an ant residing in a skate park. It’s an extremely fun clip, and zooms in from your average skateboarder ripping around to the tiny ant he doesn’t even see just strolling on the ground below — and how all hell breaks loose for the ant at just the slightest change.

The effects work is top-notch for an independent short, and director and FX director Roman Kaelin and Florian Wittmann did an excellent job of scaling the concept down to ant level. Also, if Scott Lang is watching, he may want to draft this little fella into his tiny army when Ant-Man opens July 17.
