The webslinger Spider-Man has helped save the day more than a few times on the comic-book page — but Peter Parker’s alter ego just helped one geektastic dad save the day for his eldest daughter.
Cleveland native Richard Schaen was getting worried about how he would help pay for his daughter Jane’s wedding. But then he remembered he had an old box of comic books tucked away. When he opened it, guess what was sitting on the top of the pile?
"Amazing Spider-Man" No. 1, circa 1963.
Not a bad find, even if it was a little damaged and graded out at a 6.5 condition on a scale of 1 to 10. After running the comic through an auction company, the ‘book scored geek dad a cool $7,000 off a full sale price of $7,900.
Then, thanks to Spider-Man, dear old dad was able to swing in and cover the cost of the reception. The lesson here: If money is getting tight, it never hurts to check out that old box of comics to see if you have any buried treasure. Plus, comic fans make the best parents. Just sayin'.
