What does a bored DC Extended Universe fan do while waiting for Wonder Woman 2 to take us back to the 1980s? Daydream about just how retro the sequel might take its whole vibe by whipping up some hilarious, uncannily period-appropriate fan art — what else?
Dispensing with timelines, lore, or anything else that might get in the way of a good character crossover fantasy, Australian digital artist and DCEU fan Bosslogic hit social media with a handful of posters showing how DC could rework Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent, Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, and other characters into nostalgically cool cameos for WW2.
Facial hair is the least of Cavill’s worries once Clark Kent’s been kitted out with the sweetest of mullets:
And Bruce Wayne has never looked so ready to disappear into the crowd as here, with his Batman-logo’d fanny pack, Adidas zip-up, and B-boy bling:
It’s all in good fun, with the artist totally admitting that a Superman cameo wouldn’t technically work for WW2. “Yes I know the timeline makes no sense, but yolo, XD,” he rationalizes — and after seeing the poster, it’s kinda hard to argue. There’re also posters for a de-muscled, surf-wispy Jason Momoa as Aquaman, as well as a Run-DMC-worthy, beveled-hair version of Ray Fisher’s Cyborg.
We’ve still got more than a year until WW 2 finally puts us in its wayback machine, but if the rest of the wait is filled with fan-created coolness like this, it’s sure to blaze by. Wonder Woman 2 is set to release on Nov. 1 of 2019.
