J. Michael Straczynski made geek hearts flutter the world over with his beloved sci-fi TV series Babylon 5, and a new series at ABC has just lured him back to the small screen.

Straczynski is writing and producing a currently untitled series with Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment, with Jada Pinkett Smith also attached to produce.

Deadline describes the series as a "high-octane pandemic thriller that combines closed-ended procedural and serialized elements," which sounds like it could be pretty cool.

ABC has lined up a script-to-series deal for the project, meaning that if they like how the pilot script looks, the series will get a 13-episode order to prove itself.

If Babylon 5 wasn't your cup of tea, Straczynski also has TV experience with the Showtime series Jeremiah, which was set in the aftermath of a worldwide pandemic that killed most of the adults in the world. So, yeah, he's the man for the job.

Sound off: Are you glad to see the Babylon 5 mastermind coming back to the small screen?
