WIRE Buzz: The Babysitter: Killer Queen teaser; Batman goes '70s in new animated film; more

By Jacob Oller
Batman Death in the Family

The Babysitter sequel from McG finally has a tease and a release date courtesy of Netflix. The horror-comedy genre has been ready for a new franchise (Happy Death Day can only take fans so far) and this campy fun looks to help.

Thanks to a new teaser .GIF, gorehounds and nostalgic slasher fans alike will get a kick out of the Queen-referencing The Babysitter: Killer Queen in the month preceding its release on the streaming service.

Check it out:

We love a blood-dripping hook. And a tongue to meet it? Metal as all get-out. The film stars Judah Lewis, Hana Mae Lee, Robbie Amell, Bella Thorne, Emily Alyn Lind, Andrew Bachelor, Leslie Bibb, Ken Marino, and Jenna Ortega.

The Babysitter: Killer Queen hits Netflix on Sept. 10.

Next, ahead of The Batman’s live-action Bruce Wayne reboot, the iconic DC hero is heading to the ‘70s — in animated form.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Batman: Soul of the Dragon looks to get a bit of a Bruce-sploitation vibe as it reunites Bruce Wayne and three of his ex-classmates-turned-martial-arts-champs Richard Dragon, Ben Turner, and Lady Shiva. The original story from director Sam Liu and writer Jeremy Adams — no comic adaptation here — sees them face off against one of Batman’s old foes.

The cast includes David Giuntoli as Batman, Mark Dacascos as Richard Dragon, Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva, Michael Jai White as Bronze Tiger, James Hong as O-Sensei, and Josh Keaton as Jeffrey Burr.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon looks to drop at the beginning of 2021.

Finally, a new horror movie with a Midsommar flair dropped its first trailer.

Luz: The Flower of Evil, a Spanish-language film from writer/director Juan Diego Escobar Alzate, is about a remote cult, a new Messiah, and a whole lot of horrific unrest within. I mean, “evil” is right there in the title, after all. The first trailer was always gonna be this spooky.

Take a look:

This one also has a heaping helping of The Witch in it as well, with its flame-lit cinematography, naked women, and goats. All of these things spell folk horror in big bloody letters. Luz: The Flower of Evil stars Yuri Vargas, Conrado Osorio, Andrea Esquivel, Sharon Guzman, Jim Munoz, Johan Camacho, and Daniel Paez - and will be offered in its original Spanish as well as with English dubs.

Luz: The Flower of Evil hits Digital and VOD on Sept. 15.
