The Dark Knight is going to meet up with one of his original inspirations soon as DC Comics and Dynamite have announced a new crossover with classic pulp hero The Shadow.

Dubbed Batman/Shadow, the six-part limited run is being written by Scott Snyder and Steve Orlando, with art by Riley Rossmo. Bleeding Cool reports the series will be published as a joint project between both publishers.

This isn't the first time the two heroes have met (the two crossed paths a few times back in the annals of DC lore), but it should be an interesting update to their dark dynamic. Of course, Batman's creators actually drew some inspiration from The Shadow when creating the Caped Crusader, so those contrasts could be fun to play with.

The series is described as a "dark and twisty modern noir." Here’s the solicit from DC and Dynamite:

Two of history's greatest vigilantes are reunited at last! Murder has come to Gotham City, and Lamont Cranston appears to be the culprit …but he's been dead for over fifty years! Batman will go to the ends of the Earth to unravel the mystery of Cranston's life, but the mysterious Shadow will do everything in his power to stop him from learning too much …

The first issue of Batman/Shadow is set for release on April 26. Check out the first official art from the crossover below and let us know what you think.
