The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan has been cast in a key role on director Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

We also know who the actress will be playing, and the role is pivotal to Bruce Wayne/Batman’s (Ben Affleck) storyline.

IMDb has confirmed today that Cohan has been cast as the Batman's mom, Martha Wayne, in the upcoming DC superhero movie. The role, even small, is important, because it was the murder of his parents that sent a young Bruce Wayne down the path of becoming the Caped Crusader.

The news was announced via Twitter and, as Comic Book Movie points out, even though anyone can edit the site, their official account has never been in the habit of announcing an unconfirmed bit of casting news, making today's announcement as good as official. Check it out:

But this isn’t where the Walking Dead connection ends. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) is set to make the life of our zombie survivors even more miserable as the villainous Negan when the AMC series returns for the back half of Season 6 on Feb. 14, is also playing Thomas Wayne, aka Martha’s hubby and Bruce’s dad.

Are you excited about Lauren Cohan playing Martha Wayne on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Or do you think we've seen enough of Bruce Wayne's parents at the movies?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in movie theaters on March 25, 2016.
