Director Matt Reeves' War for the Planet of the Apes just dropped a new trailer destined to stir heavy anticipation for this next chapter of the Planet of the Apes saga. Here we're thrust into the next stage of conflict as Caesar and his band of intelligent apes hunt down Woody Harrelson's radical freedom fighters to gain domination in the ongoing clash of species. What is immediately apparent in this first full trailer is the sweeping  operatic scope Reeves is trying to convey in this sequel, rich with arresting visuals and a diverse array of locations to enact the savage ape vs. human battles. Plus, you gotta love Woody's The Colonel shaving his scalp and addressing his military compound a la Marlon Brando's Colonel Kurtz in Coppola's Apocalypse Now.

Here's the official synopsis:

In ‘War for the Planet of the Apes,’ the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
