Since the moment Matt Smith announced he was leaving Doctor Who, the rumor mill started churning about who might take over as the next Time Lord. Well, the BBC has something to say about all those alleged “reports.”

Basically, the network says it’s all crap — promising the search for Smith’s replacement really is in the early phases. Everyone from Rory Kinnear to Helen Mirren is being rumored for the role, though the network claims there really isn’t a short list at this point.

Here’s the statement from the BBC, shooting down all that “speculation:”

"Speculation around the identity of who will be next to step in to the TARDIS is rife. The search has only just begun and all will be revealed over the coming months."

So what’s the truth? Probably somewhere in between. Showrunner Steven Moffat still has some time before that Christmas regeneration, though you’d think they had to have a few names in mind when Smith went public about leaving.

So who are you pulling for to take over the TARDIS?
