The BBC is looking to bring one of its most fascinating game shows back to life, which aims to recreate real-life historical battles with contestants calling the shots.
The original Time Commanders, which hit in 2003 and 2005, focused on four contestants who would work together in different roles (generals, coordinating troops, etc.). They would then pull in historians to analyze the decisions made by players, in comparison to what happened in real life, and how these changes may have affected the battle’s outcome.
Engadget reports the simulations were based on Rome: Total War, a strategy role-playing game developed by The Creative Assembly. They’ll be returning for the new series, though we’re not entirely sure what they’ll use as a framework for the new battles. The new series will be shown on BBC Four, and if you want to complete, you have until September 1 to sign up.
The original show was a fun twist on history and games, and this feels like it could be an ever more perfect fit for the modern day.
