Against all odds, 2014’s live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot turned out to be a bona fide box-office hit. For the followup, they’re going bigger and bolder with some franchise heavy hitters.
The first trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows has finally dropped, and the series looks to be digging a whole lot deeper into the TMNT canon. The trailer offers up some shots of iconic baddies Bebop and Rocksteady in action (the duo were originally set to premiere in the first film, but were axed during development), plus the introduction of Stephen Amell’s Casey Jones. If nothing else, it’ll be great to see the Arrow star on the big screen. Plus, c’mon, dude was built to play Casey Jones.
As for the story? Well, the trailer doesn’t delve too deeply into that territory (but seriously, does it even matter?), but we get some shots of the Turtle-mobile shooting manhole covers, the new-look retooling of the Turtles (which seem to be scaled down to a less-ridiculous size here), and original co-stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett back for round two.
Put simply: If you liked the first film, this should be right up your alley. They’re doubling down on the pure insanity of the TMNT franchise, so here’s hoping it pays off. If nothing else, this looks a whole lot more fun than the first film.
